This month we decided to head into London and experience the delights of The Arch a Boutique Hotel, tucked into a peaceful corner of the eminent Marylebone district, The Arch is located in an area known as the postcode of choice for international A-list celebrities. Madonna lives opposite and regularly uses the hotels state of the art gym (glad I packed my trainers!) A paradise for art and architecture lovers, the hotel spans seven Grade II listed Georgian townhouses and two mews homes and is situated a stone’s throw from Bond Street and Hyde Park making it an ideal base for a visit to London.
Not many boutique hotels have doormen, but the Arch has a very polite and helpful one taking our car keys off us to park our car and unloading our luggage was an added bonus. Once inside, the foyer is quietly glamorous, boasting studded leather, marble and glass, some interesting art, including a piece by Vincent Poole, which features a two-metre-high technicolour silhouette of a woman whose body is made up of iconic images of the capital.
We were shown to our room (which turned out to be the luxury Juniper Suite) a hidden hideaway in the basement with its own enchanting courtyard with outside heating ideal for sipping a glass of wine or champagne, a separate sitting room, bedroom and study area creating the highest levels of comfort.
Effortless technology has been incorporated into this divine suite, including a state-of-the-art television with blue-ray, Sky TV and surround sound system in the sitting room and bedroom. A large opulent bathroom completes the space, with a separate invigorating rain shower, large bath and in true movie star fashion a flat screen television built into the wall.
Complimentary soft drinks, water and juice in all mini bars, Jing teas, and a Nespresso coffee machine is provided in all rooms, this 5 star hotel has thought of everything.
After a relaxing couple of hours enjoying the luxuries of our suite (it is amazing we are in the middle of London and it is so peaceful), we head down to experience the dining delights of the Hotels restaurant HUNter 486 (it takes its name from the Fifties dialling code for Marleybome).
Open to guests and non-residents its open plan space has a cool vibe, glass light fixtures and lots of quirky features.
Dinner began with cocktails and canapes in The Martini Library a warm, opulent room where guests can enjoy fine cocktails or afternoon tea. With sumptuous armchairs and period stone fireplaces this a truly decadent space. There is even a ‘press to refresh’ service button (I love it!).
Only the finest locally grown produce and organic ingredients are used to create inspiring menus of satisfying dishes to savour at any time of day, and that is exactly what we did, savour the exqusite tastes of Carpaccio of beef, aged Parmesan and rocket salad with Black olive tapenade, Shaved white & green asparagus salad, morel vinaigrette, and warm poached duck egg. Roast loin of saltmarsh lamb, anchovy puree and fondant potato and Strozzapreti pasta, tiger prawns with lemon and mint all freshly cooked and delightful, with service being faultless.
After dinner we retreated to our suite where we had the most wonderful nights sleep. In every room each bed is handmade and adorned with duck down duvets and pillows that are so comfortable it is hard to describe.
We awoke refreshed and raring to go, breakfast was up to the high standards we had become acustomed to at this luxurious five star hotel with choices to suit all tastes.
The reason this boutique hotel, is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World™, is immediately apparant with its decor, finshing touches and attention to detail in not only all public areas of the hotel but also in all 82 guestrooms. They have created a space ideal for anyone wanting a little bit of luxury and comfort.
