There’s something lovely about arriving somewhere that immediately makes you slow down. The Belfry Hotel & Resort has long been known as one of Britain’s most iconic golf resorts, but as we pulled up outside, I quickly realised you certainly don’t need a handicap to enjoy everything this beautiful resort has to offer.

Stepping inside, our eyes were immediately drawn upwards to one of the most impressive chandeliers I’ve seen. Cascading dramatically through the lobby, it’s crafted entirely from golf clubs, a striking centrepiece that perfectly reflects The Belfry’s legendary golfing heritage whilst adding a touch of contemporary glamour.
The sun was shining, so rather than heading straight to our room, we did what any sensible person would do, found the nearest terrace.

An Aperol Spritz at Sam’s Bar & Kitchen, affectionately known as the 19th Hole, seemed like the perfect way to begin our stay. Sitting outside overlooking the course, we watched golfers make their way around the immaculate greens, quietly analysing every swing as though we knew exactly what we were talking about. It’s one of those places where time disappears without you really noticing.
Eventually, and with some reluctance, we dragged ourselves away to discover our room.

Opening the door, the first thing we did was head straight for the balcony. The view across the famous Brabazon Course is simply beautiful. Rolling fairways stretched out in front of us, golfers dotted the landscape below and there was a wonderful feeling of calm as we stood taking it all in. It was one of those moments where you instantly unpack a little slower because there’s absolutely no rush to be anywhere else.
Inside, our room was spacious, beautifully designed and wonderfully comfortable, with soft neutral colours and everything needed for a relaxing stay.

Then came a lovely little piece of Belfry gossip. Apparently, these very rooms, complete with their interconnecting doors, were once home to Ozzy, Sharon and Kelly Osbourne during a stay at the resort. Safe to say our evening was probably not quite so wild!
Pouring a glass of wine, it was time to head back out onto the balcony and soak it all in. The promise of only staying a few minutes evaporated quickly and an hour later, we were still there. There was something incredibly calming about the whole setting, the sweeping views, the peaceful surroundings and the gentle soundtrack of golfers finishing their day. It was impossible not to unwind, and one of those rare moments where you genuinely don’t want to move.

As the sun began to set, we headed downstairs for pre-dinner drinks in The Brabazon Bar. The moment you walk in, it’s easy to see why it’s considered the social heart of The Belfry. Centred around its striking circular bar beneath the beautiful glass atrium, the space feels effortlessly elegant, with stylish seating, soft lighting and a wonderful buzz that fills the room as guests gather for cocktails before dinner.
Dinner was served in Ryder Restaurant, where we experienced the resort’s renowned buffet. Now, if the word buffet conjures up images of tired hotel food, think again.

This is something entirely different. Beautifully presented stations showcase dishes inspired by cuisines from around the world, all freshly prepared using seasonal ingredients. We found ourselves wandering back more than once, discovering something different each time. From delicate nibbles and vibrant salads to hearty mains and desserts that were impossible to resist.

Our evening didn’t end here, after dinner we took a gentle stroll through the immaculate gardens before arriving at the spa, where we immersed ourselves in the Fire & Ice Experience.
Moving between the warmth of the aromatic steam rooms and the invigorating hydrotherapy pool was wonderfully restorative. Each room offers a different sensory experience, encouraging you to slow down, breathe a little deeper and simply be present. A relaxing facial followed and had me drifting off into a gentle trance emerging afterwards with glowing skin and feeling lighter than I had in weeks.
After a wonderfully peaceful night’s sleep, we woke to coffee on the balcony, before enjoying a leisurely breakfast. Fresh pastries, seasonal fruit and perfectly cooked hot dishes meant there was no need to rush the morning.

Before heading home, there was just one thing left to do. It would have been rude to leave The Belfry without attempting to hit at least a few golf balls.
So we made our way over to the Derby Course. Let’s just say there were a handful of shots that looked reasonably professional and several others that definitely brought back memories of a crazy golf course! Thankfully there were no trophies at stake, only plenty of fun and laughter.
That’s perhaps what surprised me most about The Belfry. Yes, it’s steeped in golfing history. Yes, the facilities are exceptional. But what stayed with me wasn’t the famous fairways or championship pedigree. It was sitting on our balcony with a glass of wine as the sun disappeared across the Brabazon Course. It was laughing over an Aperol Spritz at the 19th Hole. It was slowing down for a spa evening when the rest of the world carried on outside.
Luxury isn’t always about extravagance. Sometimes it’s simply having the time and the space to enjoy every single moment and The Belfry gives you exactly that.
