Boasting an impressive riverside location and spectacular views over London’s historic River Thames there is something instantly calming as you step into The Westin London City. The frantic pace of the capital seems to soften the moment the doors open and you’re welcomed into a lobby that feels both contemporary and cocooning. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light, while sleek marble finishes, warm woods and subtle botanical touches create an atmosphere of understated luxury rather than overt opulence.

What immediately draws the eye, however, is the extraordinary triple-height atrium ceiling, suspended with a bespoke undulating paper sculpture created by renowned Dutch artist Peter Gentenaar. Floating effortlessly above the lobby, the sculptural installation adds movement, artistry and a sense of serenity to the space, setting the tone for the calming experience that follows. It is elegant, polished and quietly confident, exactly what you want from a city retreat perched on the edge of the Thames.

On arrival, we headed straight for the Heavenly Spa and within minutes London felt a million miles away. The tranquil pool area is beautifully designed with soft lighting and a hushed ambience that encourages you to slow down from the moment you arrive. We spent a blissful afternoon lounging poolside before I indulged in one of the spa’s express facials, the perfect treatment for reviving tired city skin.

Afterwards, wrapped in a robe and fully embracing the slower pace, we relaxed with a soothing herbal tea alongside bowls of dried fruits and nuts in the spa’s serene relaxation area. It was one of those rare moments where time genuinely seemed to stand still.
Eventually, we made our way up to our Signature King Room, where the calming aesthetic continued. The room struck the perfect balance between modern sophistication and comfort, with plush textures, warm neutral tones and ambient lighting creating an instantly restful feel.

Large windows framed sweeping views across the capital, adding a sense of drama to the otherwise tranquil space. The signature Heavenly Bed lived up to its name, irresistibly inviting with crisp linens and cloud-like pillows that practically demanded an afternoon lie-down.
Waiting for us in the room was a beautifully presented platter of fresh fruit alongside delicate macarons, a thoughtful touch that certainly didn’t disappoint. After taking a moment to settle in, we headed to the Westin Club Lounge where floor-to-ceiling views across the London skyline became the backdrop to a relaxed afternoon of light snacks and refreshing drinks. Watching the city buzz below while tucked away in such a peaceful setting felt wonderfully indulgent.

Back in the room, we spent time unwinding and getting ready for the evening before returning to the Club Lounge for pre-dinner wine and canapés. As dusk settled over the city, the atmosphere softly shifted, the lights of London began to twinkle against the skyline and the ambience was warm, relaxed and quietly sophisticated.
Cocktails at Hithe + Seek followed, undoubtedly one of the hotel’s standout spots. Overlooking the Thames and the illuminated city beyond, the bar exudes a chic yet intimate energy.

The views alone are reason enough to visit, but expertly crafted cocktails make it difficult to leave. Sipping drinks while gazing across the river towards the glowing skyline felt undeniably cinematic.
Dinner was served in Mosaic, the hotel’s stylish dining destination that celebrates vibrant Mediterranean-inspired flavours. We began with a chilled glass of Côte de Provence while leisurely perusing the menu before deciding to share a selection of dishes.

We settled on the mezze platter that features silky hummus, smoky ezme and creamy haydari, fresh, flavourful and ideal for sharing, while the prawn satay with peanut crumble and sweet chilli mayo delivered the perfect balance of sweetness, spice and crunch.
For mains, the pan-seared sea bass was beautifully delicate, served with vibrant seasonal greens and a light lemon dressing that enhanced the freshness of the dish perfectly. Alongside it, the fillet steak was expertly cooked, tender and richly flavoursome, a classic choice executed with precision and simplicity. Together, the dishes struck a perfect balance between lighter Mediterranean-inspired dining and indulgent comfort.

Not quite ready for the evening to end, we returned to Hithe + Seek for a final nightcap. The atmosphere at night feels entirely different, moodier, more seductive, with The Thames glittering outside the windows. It was the perfect way to round off the evening before retreating back to the sanctuary of our room for what turned out to be one of the best night’s sleep I’ve had in a hotel in quite some time.

The following morning began slowly with breakfast, and much like the rest of the stay, it struck the perfect balance between wellness and indulgence. Fresh pastries, seasonal fruits, perfectly prepared hot dishes and of course English breakfast tea made for an unhurried start to the day.

The Westin London City manages to achieve something many city hotels strive for but rarely master: it genuinely feels like an urban sanctuary. Sophisticated yet welcoming, luxurious without ever trying too hard, it offers the kind of restorative escape that leaves you feeling both recharged and reluctant to leave.
