Ambong-Ambong, a boutique eco and wellness retreat located in Langkawi, Malaysia, introduces a truly authentic farm-to-table cookery experience at its very own organic farm – Buluh & Tebing – further demonstrating the resort’s commitment to sustainable practices.
An immersive experience, guests can discover the techniques of organic farming combined with enjoying some of the freshest Malaysian culinary delights, against the farm’s lush backdrop.
The family-run Ambong-Ambong resort is dedicated to creating an unrivalled holistic and wellness offering through its retreats, yoga, spa and dining, as well as continuing its pledge to support ongoing sustainability projects, preserving local wildlife and giving back to the local community. Acting sustainably is at the very heart of Ambong-Ambong’s philosophy, with a key priority being to reduce food imports from mainland peninsular Malaysia by prioritising locally-grown and locally-sourced produce.
Most of the dishes at Ambong-Ambong include fresh, organic ingredients sourced from the Buluh & Tebing farm, which comprises a fishpond, fruit orchard, vegetable farm, flower and orchid nursery, and bamboo grove.
The farm also has some animals, including free range chickens that supply eggs to Ambong-Ambong, and three cows that provide natural fertilisers for the farm. The flower and orchid nursery supplies flowers and orchids to the resort and spa. Guests are invited to explore all these areas on the special tours.
Whilst ensuring their own operations are locally sustainable, especially when it comes to food supplies, Ambong-Ambong is working towards expanding the scope of the organic farm to supply others hospitality providers on the island with local organic produce. The farm also has a bamboo grove which is being developed to showcase bamboo as one of the most sustainable plants on the planet, and a bamboo café is being built to highlight bamboo’s natural properties and multiple uses, especially as a green building material.
Guests are invited to make pre-arranged visits to the farm, which is located 45 minutes drive away in the foothills of Gunung Raya, Langkawi’s tallest mountain. The farm tours, guided by experiences farmers, offer an unparalleled opportunity to witness first-hand how food is grown sustainably and organically and to explore the different areas of the farm. After the tour, the chef will guide visitors through the art of harvesting fresh produce and prepare a farm-to-table feast in an open-air cookery class that emphasises local, seasonal ingredients from the farm. Guests can enjoy the freshly made sumptuous three course lunch in the tranquil setting of the farm, surrounded by the verdant beauty of Langkawi’s rainforest.
Ambong-Ambong is a paradise for guests seeking mindful relaxation, wellness activities and the opportunity to enjoy the surrounding beautiful landscape. This boutique eco resort is located on the tranquil island of Langkawi, a popular destination among those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life and immerse themselves in a peaceful and natural environment.
Ambong-Ambong encompasses two separate styles of accommodation – the luxurious Ambong Pool Villas with nine pool villas located on the hillside affording spectacular views, and the Ambong Rainforest Retreat – in the peaceful surroundings of the forest offering 11 suites, studios, and cottages.
