The Telegraphenamt in the Berlin district Mitte between Oranienburger Strasse and the Bode Museum opened its doors as a hotel at the end of last year. This lavishly restored historic building combines a hotel, restaurant, bar, event space, a private members club and is a meeting place for locals and globals.
At the Telegraphenamt you don’t just sleep or eat, you live.
Already the spacious driveway opposite Monbijou Park is impressive. Instead of the classic lobby, guests are greeted by an open plan room with plants, comfortable benches and the original pneumatic mail tube system. This, is as it was more than 100 years ago, when it was the communications hub of the hotel. The atmosphere is open and lively. There is a welcome drink from the adjacent bar or a snack from the in-house Japanese Bakery & Sushi Bar. Check-in is done with an iPad simply and easily while having a drink or on the way to the room.
The hotel has 97 rooms and maisonettes. The design of the interiors is influenced by the Berlin of the 1920s, the building’s history itself and the current lifestyle of the city. Original building elements such as the historic columns, capped ceilings in the rooms and the exposed brick walls have been integrated into the modern interior design.
ROOT Restaurant
In the same building as the hotel: the ROOT Restaurant. Here a variety of tastes, influences and philosophies are found on the plate. Beloved dishes from different parts of the world are on the menu. The international breadth this is rendered regionally as a large part of the ingredients are local.
Behind the concept is the team of Berlin restaurateur Roland Mary who also runs the hotel: “We do what we think is good.” Those who would like to look over the chefs’ shoulders as they prepare their dishes can take a seat at the counter facing the open kitchen. The restaurant is the ideal place to meet for a relaxed lunch, casual get-togethers or creative talks during the day. For evenings that turn into night, the bar sits adjacently.
The “Hub” for Relaxation
To stay fit for the capital city and the world, hotel guests and members of the Private Members Club “Longlat” can use the modern fitness and well-being area “hub” with its modern equipment and training areas for yoga, boxing or CrossFit. Treatment services and saunas complete the offer. In the “hub”, well-being is not just a fashion term. Here body and mind are treated holistically. From physiotherapists to chiropractors to facial treatments, the “hub” offers a comprehensive program for physical and mental development.
Events at the Telegraphenamt
The event area provides the perfect setting for a variety of events whether creative sessions, panel talks, fashion installations, conferences or corporate events. In the former coachman’s yard, the glass roof provides a distinctively lit atmosphere. The adjacent smaller hall complements the space. In both rooms high ceilings, daylight, exposed brick walls and parquet flooring create an atmospheric ambience. The seven maisonettes are available for interviews and more private discussions in smaller groups.
