Celebrate Sicily’s Floral and Architectural Artistry

Steeped in history and famed for its Baroque architecture, Sicily has long been a favourite destination for those keen to immerse themselves in Italian culture. Citalia reports a 33% increase in bookings since October 2022, likely due to the effect of the HBO series White Lotus. For those looking to see an authentic side of the island, every May the city of Noto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and widely regarded as one of the pinnacles of Sicilian Baroque architecture plays host to the world famous Infiorata di Noto flower festival.

Located on the southern side of the island, the whole town of Noto presents an awe-inspiring display of flowers along the via Nicolaci, one of its main streets. 122 metres long, it bursts into full bloom with floral arrangements and displays created by master florists, all in line with a particular theme often related to local history, art or religion, to create one spectacular exhibit. The street via Nicolai also runs alongside two of Sicily’s most celebrated buildings – the palace of Prince Nicolaci “Villadorata” and the Church of Montevergini – both stunning examples of Sicilian architecture.

The Infiorata di Noto flower festival takes place this year between 19 May – 23 May 2023 and will be the 44th edition of the festival.

Alternatively, journey into Italy’s Baroque architectural past with a trip to Ragusa, home of the Duomo of San Georgio church, Palazzo Zacco and Ragusa Cathedral in Ragusa Superiore, to name just a few examples. All featuring impressive displays of ornate Baroque styles.
