Croatia – Experience Quiet Luxury at LOPUD 1483

With the shores of Italy overflowing this summer, the Croatian island of Lopud has proven a chic alternative for some of the world’s biggest names in sports, fashion and entertainment.

Those looking to go under the radar have been drawn to LOPUD 1483 – a haven of privacy and security within the ramparts of a sprawling 5,000-square-foot 15th-century monastery complex.

Originally constructed in 1483 as a cloistered sanctuary for contemplation and healing, this medieval fortified monastery underwent a meticulous two-decade-long restoration before first opening its doors to guests in July 2020 as one of Europe’s most intriguing exclusive-use properties. Guided by the visionary leadership of Creative Director, Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza, every effort has been made to revive its original grandeur and preserve its authentic essence.

Within the sprawling 5,000-square-foot monastery complex, a haven of privacy and security awaits – offering a full complement of staff including butlers and a private chef. The 13 original cells have been transformed into five exquisite suites, housing a bespoke selection from one of the world’s great private art collections, collected by four generations of the Thyssen-Bornemisza family. The gardens span multiple terraces and are inspired by the traditional wisdom of the Franciscan monks who once called the monastery home, and provide the perfect setting for sunrise yoga and meditation classes arranged by the onsite team.

Encircled by an awe-inspiring fortification that evokes the grandeur of a Game of Thrones set, the Renaissance fortress also doubles as an event venue for exclusive parties and events. This year, the property has unveiled a refreshing plunge pool overlooking the spectacular view, allowing guests to go from sunbathing to swimming whilst avoiding the gaze of the paparazzi.

Offering direct from yacht access, just a 30-minute boat ride from Dubrovnik, the interiors of this former monastery, are adorned with museum-quality masterpieces, menus informed by the season and endless views across azure waters.

Guests at LOPUD 1483 will be captivated by the seamless fusion of history, art, and natural beauty that defines this truly unique property.
