Leaf & Cane invites city dwellers to escape to a jungle of vibrant-styled mixology and soul-quenching street food from the southern hemisphere.
Residing on the former grounds of King Henry VIII’s Bridewell Palace 1515-1523, famously
where he divorced Katherine of Aragon, is the five-star, Grade II-listed hotel, Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars, who are celebrating their one year anniversary this June. Edward VI gave the palace to the City of London and by the 18th Century, it became a famous women’s prison.
Today, the hotel’s signature cocktail bar ‘Leaf & Cane’ is an upmarket, design led Latino bar in the city. Opening this summer is the outside terrace situated below street level, featuring nine original stone vaults, once part of the historic women’s prison, for a memorable and immersive alfresco experience.
The venue is a tropical oasis inspired by the larger-than-life tribes of Latin America that gave the world exotic plants, flavours, upbeat energy, and colourful, soulful stories. Borucas is the tribe that the bar pays particular homage to – a powerful indigenous tribe living in the forests of Costa Rica with a taste for dancing and homemade Chicha.
Leaf & Cane offers guests 10 new uniquely handcrafted cocktails alongside a menu of classics, all full of tropical flavours taken from across the globe and an exclusive range of premium rums. Thoughtfully crafted to accompany the bar’s drinks offerings, Leaf & Cane’s expert team of chefs have curated a variety of mouth-watering Latin American inspired dishes, from Beef Quesadilla and Coxinha to Cassava Fries and Pão De Queijo, designed to be shared amongst friends. The bar’s signature Dulce Churros are also not to be missed. Complementing the offering is a world class selection of authentic Cuban cigars, elevating the bar’s sensory experience. A connoisseurs collection, choose from an iconic selection that includes Romeo y Julieta Churchills, Montecristo No.4 and No.2, Cohiba Siglo IV and Trinidad Vigia.
The venue plays host to a taste-led experience and an immersive ambience that’s defined by the upbeat vibrations of the multicultural setting it represents. With live entertainment ranging from jazz tunes to Afro-Cuban beats, guests can kick off their evening in a colourful escape reminiscent of the tribe-life by which it’s inspired. Wednesday and Thursday nights also play host to live DJ Guy D’Angelo, who spins Latin, Afro and Tribal beats.
Open from Tuesday to Saturday, 5pm-2am.
